Rachel & Gavin | Ivory Acres Wedding in Frewsburg, NY

Some weddings feel a little more personal than others.

Rachel is my cousin, so being asked to photograph her wedding was especially meaningful. While we’re on different branches of the family tree, it was such a privilege to be there, not just as the photographer, but as family.

Rachel and Gavin were married at Ivory Acres in Frewsburg, New York, a beautiful barn venue with plenty of picturesque spots tucked throughout the property. They exchanged vows under the outdoor pavilion before celebrating with family and friends inside the restored barn for the reception.

The day was full of thoughtful details. Giulia Sowrey with Star Sirch kept the reception moving, 3C’s Catering served dinner, and the florals by Pea Pod & Juniper were absolutely beautiful.

Those flowers carried a little extra meaning for me.

They were arranged by Rachel’s cousin, Chad Peterson. Chad also happened to be the ring bearer in my own wedding years ago. As a thank-you gift, my husband and I gave him a rose bush because he already loved flowers, even as a little boy. Seeing him now, creating beautiful floral arrangements for his cousin’s wedding, was one of those unexpected full-circle moments that made me smile.

It also reminded me how much of a family celebration a wedding really is.

Throughout the day, cousins, grandparents, siblings, and lifelong friends all played a part in making the day special. Weddings have a way of bringing people together, and Rachel and Gavin’s was a wonderful reminder of that. There was so much genuine joy in simply being together and celebrating this new chapter.

As a photographer, those are often my favorite moments to capture. The portraits are important, of course, but it’s the conversations, hugs, laughter, and little interactions throughout the day that tell the bigger story.

Rachel and Gavin, thank you for trusting me with such an important day. It was an honor to celebrate with you and preserve these memories for your family.
